Megabits per second (Mbps) tells you how much you can do at one moment with your internet connection. Each device that each person in the home has online will use some of your total bandwidth. This video tells you the bandwidth that some common activities will use. Above, we have outlined what speeds many of our customers choose based on their needs.

A single student or Telecommuter can use between 30-200Mbps. A single device streaming video will use from 5-25Mbps. Many of us have smartphones online while doing other activities. Those phones will take up bandwidth too, as well as WiFi-enabled home devices such as ring doorbells and amazon echo speakers.

For example a household with 2 homeschoolers, 1 telecommuter, 2 TVs, 3 smartphones using social media, and a few regular small devices would use anywhere from 200M to 800M download speed, and upto 200M upload.
